Superintendents Memorandum #42 on Graphing
Calculators and Scientific Probe Kits |
Superintendents Memorandum #42 presented three options for acquisition of graphing calculators and scientific probe kits funded by the General Assembly. Ninety-four school divisions prefer to have the Department of Education purchase and distribute the technology or authorize the department of education to proceed with a state contract/bid list. The majority of the school divisions (54) prefer to have the DOE purchase and distribute the graphing calculators and scientific probe kits. However, an initial discussion with the Department of General Services created a need for more information to address procurement requirements. The purpose of the attached survey is to seek information on the school divisions' inventory and use of graphing calculators and electronic scientific probe kits. For the purpose of the survey, the definition of graphing calculator is restricted to the following specifications: Graphing calculators that interface or link with an electronic data collecting device that is part of a scientific probe kit. The graphing calculator must also have the capability of linking with a computer for the purpose of data and file sharing. Your completion of the attached survey by July 31, 1997 will be greatly appreciated. Questions may be directed to Dr. Ida J. Hill, Assistant Superintendent for Technology, at (804) 225-2757. RTL/emt Attachment: A hard copy of this memo and its attachment will be sent to the superintendent's office.
