Maximum Basic Authorization and Supplementary Concentration
Grants for Title I Fiscal Year 1997-98 |
Attached are copies of the 1997-98 Title I Maximum Basic Authorization Basic Grant Allocations and the Supplementary Concentration Grants Allocations for counties, cities, and towns totaling $105,734,923. These entitlements are allocated to the Commonwealth of Virginia under the provisions of Public Law 103-382. The U. S. Department of Education will allocate the total grant amounts in two phases: Phase 1 - July 1, 1997 (82%) and Phase 2 - October 1, 1997 (18%). Certain school divisions will receive concentration funds appropriated under Title I of the Improving America's Schools Act of 1994, as amended by Public Law 103-382. This supplementary appropriation should be added to the Maximum Basic Authorization for the total amount available in the 1997-98 school year. The Maximum Basic Authorization for 1997-98 is subject to adjustments for implementing the bypass provision of Section 1120 of Public Law 103-382 for services to children enrolled in private schools. The Maximum Basic Authorization for each of the school divisions has been adjusted downward. Further adjustments may be needed to meet the requirements of Section 1120. Separate accounting procedures for the Maximum Basic Authorization and Supplementary Concentration Grants are not required. These funds may be carried over to the 1998-99 school year. Project applications for 1997-98 should be submitted to the appropriate Title I Specialist, Office of Compensatory Programs, Division of Instruction. If you have questions, please contact George H. Irby, Director, Office of Compensatory Programs, Division of Instruction, at (804) 225-2869. RTL:tsc Attachments
