ADMINISTRATIVE

  Item 140.B.9 of Chapter 924, the 1996-98 Appropriations Act,
  requires the Superintendent of Public Instruction to furnish
  the Chairmen of the Senate Finance and House Appropriations
  Committees a report on salary improvement by December 1, 1997. 
  The following attachments, when properly completed and
  certified by division superintendents, will be used for these
  purposes.

          ATTACHMENT A - 1996-97 and 1997-98 Actual and
                         Budgeted Average Salaries

          ATTACHMENT B - 1997-98 Description of Improvement of
                         Classroom Teacher Salaries

  Please review carefully the sections pertaining to average
  salary computation in the 1996-97 Annual School Report
  (Administrative Supts. Memo. No. 53 dated July 25, 1997) prior
  to completion of the Attachments.  It is important that the
  salary position of your locality (or regional center) be
  presented accurately.

  Please return Attachment A and B to Doris B. West, Senior

  September 26, 1997.
