SUBJECT:	Application Deadline extended to February 28, 1997 and Report of Eligible Properties

  We have received notice from the U.S. Department of
  Education that due to unavoidable delays in the production
  and dissemination of FY 1996 application packages this year,
  many school districts received them approximately one month
  before they were due to be returned to the U.S. Department
  of Education.  Therefore the  deadline for filing
  applications has been extended to February 28, 1997.    

  We also received notice that the U.S. Department of
  Education has sent the report of properties that may be
  claimed under the Impact Aid Program to school divisions. 
  The report lists eligible Federal properties for the Impact
  Aid application.

  If you did not receive a copy of the application or a copy
  of the eligible properties, please call Ms. Doris B. West,
  Senior Budget Analyst, at (804) 225-2091.  If you have any
  questions concerning the completion of the application
  forms, please contact the Impact Aid staff at (202) 260-3907.
