SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 36
February 28, 1997 |
TO: | Division Superintendents |
FROM: | Richard T. La Pointe
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
SUBJECT: | K-12 Technology Handbook |
Over the last several years, through the efforts of the Governor, the Legislature, and the Department of Education, significant funds have been made available to support improving K-12 education in Virginia through the introduction of new technologies. Based upon the funds available and the technology plans and surveys you have completed, it is clearly evident that Virginia will continue to be a leader in educational technology. To help you in your efforts to implement these new technologies, the Department of Education in conjunction with The Virginia Educational Technology Advisory Committee (VETAC) has developed the "K-12 Technology Handbook -- Electronic." This handbook has World Wide Web links to up-to-date technical information which we think will be helpful as you introduce new networks, computers, software, and other technologies into your schools. You can get to the "K-12 Technology Handbook -- Electronic" from the Department's home page. In addition, it can be found at http://www.pen.k12.va.us/go/techbook/. Copies of the Web pages are attached to this memo to give you some idea of what you can expect to find. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about the handbook, please e-mail them to the Virginia PEN postmaster (postmaster@pen.k12.va.us), or telephone Ms. Bernie Chamberlain at (804) 371-7587. Finally, we would ask that you visit this website often -- we plan to update it regularly to provide the most current technology information available. RTL/jt Attachments: A hard copy of this memo and its attachments will be sent to the superintendent's office.
