SUBJECT: | Announcing the 1997 High Schools That Work/Tech Prep Summer Institute |
You are invited to participate in the High Schools That Work/Tech Prep Summer Institute, August 10-13, 1997 at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center. The theme, "Increasing Student Achievement by Raising Standards", will focus on establishing higher standards and expectations for students at the secondary and postsecondary levels. Goals of Institute Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences related to successful practices in raising expectations and achievement levels of students by: designing challenging programs of study that support the Virginia Standards of Learning integrating academic and vocational/technical knowledge and skills facilitating a seamless transition of students from secondary education to and from postsecondary education offering professional development activities to improve teaching and learning. Call For Presentations Individuals or teams will have an opportunity to showcase successful practices being implemented locally that are keyed to the High Schools That Work Key Practices, Tech Prep Goals, and the Virginia Standards of Learning. NO. 44 March 7, 1997 Page 2 Registration and Participant Expenses Registration (Deadline May 30, 1997) $50.00 per person Late Registration $75.00 per person Registration includes continental breakfast daily, dinner on Sunday, a luncheon on Monday and Tuesday, and brunch on Wednesday. The Hotel Roanoke and other nearby hotels will be used for institute participants. Lodging rates at the Hotel Roanoke will be $57 for a single room (including taxes) and $77 for double/triple/ quad room (including taxes). Individuals will be responsible for their lodging bill, including taxes and incidentals, other meals, and travel expenses.
