SUBJECT: | Announcing the 1997-98 High Schools That Work/Tech Prep Grant Application for New Sites |
The Virginia Department of Education, in partnership with the Virginia Community College System, is pleased to announce the 1997-98 High Schools That Work (HSTW)/Tech Prep Grant Application for New Sites. This grant is federally funded for $10,000 maximum with a minimum match of 50 percent local funds for each site. The grant is provided under the requirements of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Education Act of 1990 and is available through the submission and selection of competitive applications. The grant packet will contain all necessary information and forms. The deadline for submission is August 29, 1997. The grantee must - implement the HSTW Key Practices/Tech Prep Goals based on Virginia's educational foundation as defined in the framework of the Standards of Accreditation, the Standards of Learning, and the State Assessment System - include a high school with grades 9-12, (in the event the school is served by a vocational center, the center's programs and faculty must be included in the application/management plan) - provide evidence of cooperation/participation between the local school and parents, business representatives, postsecondary educators, and community groups - provide assurances and commitments, budget summary, and the 1997-98 Management Plan.
