SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 104
June 13, 1997 |
TO: | Division Superintendents |
FROM: | Richard T. La Pointe Superintendent of Public Instruction |
SUBJECT: | Superintendents Memorandum #42 on Graphing Calculators and Scientific Probes |
Superintendents Memorandum #42 on Graphing Calculators and Scientific Probes in support of the Standards of Learning provides three options to school divisions for the state contract/bid list. Following distribution of memorandum number 42 on June 6, 1997, the Department of Education was informed that the Department of General Services has recently upgraded the state contract/bid list to include Texas Instrument's graphing calculators 81, 82, 83, and 85. This is a normal procedure for the Department of General Services. However, personnel negotiating the graphing calculator contract were not aware of the special funding in support of the Standards of Learning for graphing calculators for schools, and the Department of Education's desire to provide graphing calculator options at the lowest cost to schools. Therefore, we have begun discussion with General Services concerning the special funds and are determining ways to honor school preferences. The Department of Education is asking you to return the form attached to Superintendents Memorandum #42 to provide information for the special fund negotiation. Questions may be directed to Dr. Ida J. Hill, Assistant Superintendent for Technology at (804) 225-2757. RTL/emt
