Enclosed are the September 30, 1997 public school fall
membership reports.  This information was collected under
Administrative Superintendents Memorandum #60, dated August 22,
1997.

Included with this memo are two reports:  "State Summary
compiled by Type of School, Grade, and Ethnic Group" and
"Division Summary (PK-UG)".  A count of students by individual
school will be accessible from the Department's World Wide Web
page (http://pen.k12.va.us/Anthology/VDOE/) under "Data and
Publications," "Fall Membership," "1997."

Detailed enrollment reports, and the enclosed summaries, will
be available on Virginia's Public Education Network
(Virginia's PEN) after November 18, 1997.  The reports can be
found under the "Archives of Documents" sub-menu, "Fall
Membership" item.
