SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 74
November 13, 1998 |
TO: | Division Superintendents |
FROM: | Paul D. Stapleton
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
SUBJECT: | Virginia Statistics on School Personnel for the 1998-99 School Year |
On September 16, 1994, SUPTS. MEMO NO. 142 was distributed to school divisions announcing that the Teacher Daily Assignment (TDA) forms were being discontinued as the source for collecting essential data relative to the teaching force in Virginia. That memo also indicated that periodically it may be necessary to request selected data on the teaching force that should be available from your central office files and should not require classroom teachers and other employees to complete TDA forms. This memorandum requests statistics on school personnel for the 1998-99 school year needed by the "Citizens Advisory Task Force" of the General Assembly's Commission on Access and Diversity in Higher Education in Virginia. The "Citizens Advisory Task Force" is chaired by the Commission's vice chair, Senator Emily Couric, Charlottesville. Other members of the General Assembly on the task force include Senator John S. Edwards, Roanoke; Delegate Mary T. Christian, ex officio, Hampton; and Delegate James H. Dillard, II, Fairfax. The data requested on the attached survey are essential for the task force to complete its report by December 15, 1998. Please provide the requested information for your school division for the 1998-99 school year to the Department of Education on or before December 1, 1998. Personnel in the Department will compile the data for the commission's Citizen Advisory Task Force between December 1 and December 15. If you have questions or require additional information about this request, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Thomas A. Elliott, Assistant Superintendent for Teacher Education and Licensure, at (804) 371-2522. PDS/rt Attachment: A hard copy of this memo and its attachment will be sent to the superintendent's office c: Directors of Human Resources
