SUBJECT: | Virginia School Principals' Week, May 17-23, 1998 |
Governor James Gilmore has declared May 17-23, 1998 as Virginia School Principals' Week in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Governor recognizes that principals in Virginia are responsible for instructional leadership and effective school management, promoting positive student achievement, safe and secure environments, and the efficient use of resources. Observance of Virginia School Principals' Week provides the citizens of Virginia with an opportunity to recognize the role of Virginia's principals in helping to ensure implementation of the Standards of Learning and the new Standards of Accreditation. The Department of Education joins Governor Gilmore in acknowledging Virginia's principals for providing responsible leadership for the proper implementation of the state's reform initiatives. We hope that you will announce the observance of Virginia School Principals' Week and plan activities to honor your principals. If you have questions about this announcement, please call Dr. Patricia I. Wright, Director of Secondary Instruction, at (804) 225-2880. PDS/piw
