SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 121
August 21, 1998 |
TO: | Division Superintendents |
FROM: | Paul D. Stapleton
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
SUBJECT: | POLARIS |
This memo is to prepare you and your staff for technological changes that are occurring in the Department of Education that may have potential benefit to your staff in dealing with many school bus-related issues. The Pupil Transportation Service is implementing a crash reporting program (POLARIS) that will permit access through the Internet. Although, crash reports still can be submitted on a hard copy, the new program will enable local school divisions to report crash information without having to send discs or hard copies to the department. Each school division will be given a password to access the POLARIS program. This restricted access also will protect the confidential information about drivers and students. Additionally, training will occur during the fall in each of the eight regions and it will be helpful if your staff has access to the Internet when this training begins. If you have questions or concerns about this new program, please contact Dr. Barbara V. Goodman or Robert F. "Bob" Cere, Jr. at 804-225-2037. PDS/aam
