The 1999 Virginia Pupil Transportation Conference, sponsored by the Department of Education and VAPT, will be held at the Roanoke Airport Marriott and Clarion Hotel Roanoke Airport, Roanoke, Virginia, June 20-23, 1999. An outline of the tentative conference program is shown as Attachment "A." On Sunday June 20, registration is scheduled from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. An exhibits review and display will be held from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. and will include a reception hosted by Virginia Truck Center and Blue Bird Body Company. Monday's schedule includes registration and exhibits from 7 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. and from 4 p.m.-6 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. by a Bar-B-Que Cookout, sponsored by Sonny Merryman and Thomas Built Buses. On Tuesday, June 22, registration and exhibit areas will be open from 7 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. On the evening of the 22nd, special entertainment will be provided by Kingmor and K & M Supply following the banquet. Displays of complete vehicles are scheduled for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The first general session of the conference will begin at 10 am on Tuesday, June 22nd. The conference will adjourn by noon on Wednesday, June 23rd. Information requested on the attached Pre-Registration Form (Attachment "B") is needed by the Pupil Transportation Service to plan for registration and other conference activities. For those registering prior to June 1st, a $10 registration fee will be charged to help defray the costs of conducting this conference. After June 1st, the registration fee will be $15 per person. Also there will be a charge of $25 per person for the banquet scheduled on Tuesday. CHECKS FOR THE BANQUET AND REGISTRATION MUST BE MADE PAYABLE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND, IF POSSIBLE, SUBMITTED TO THE PUPIL TRANSPORTATION SERVICE WITH YOUR CONFERENCE PRE-REGISTRATION FORM. Banquet reservations must be finalized with the hotel by the Department no later than Tuesday, June 1. Payment or confirmation of reservations is required by that date. Pre-conference seminars for supervisors and mechanics are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, June 21. Please use Attachment "C" for seminar registration. SPECIAL ENTERTAINMENT - ATTACHMENT "D": To assist sponsors in planning for the special events, it would be most helpful if you would fill out and return Attachment "D" no later than June 1, 1999. ADMITTANCE TO SPECIAL EVENTS WILL BE BY NAME TAGS ONLY. Everyone attending special events must register, pay the registration fee, and receive a name tag (there is no charge for children under 12). This includes spectators at the Road-E-O who plan to participate in other events. Room reservations at The Roanoke Airport Marriott should be made as early as possible. ROOM RESERVATIONS RECEIVED BY THE HOTEL AFTER May 21, 1999, WILL BE HONORED ON A SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS AND POSSIBLY AT A HIGHER RATE. THE NUMBER OF RESERVATIONS IS LIMITED. A special invitation is extended to division superintendents and other school officials who are involved in purchasing equipment, and anyone interested in learning more about changes in federal and state programs affecting pupil transportation.
