SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 99
May 7, 1999 |
TO: | Division Superintendents |
FROM: | Paul D. Stapleton Superintendent of Public Instruction |
SUBJECT: | Surveys For Paraprofessionals and Teachers Who Supervise Paraprofessionals |
The Virginia Department of Education requests your assistance and that of your faculty and staff in disseminating surveys to appropriate personnel. The training and supervision of paraprofessionals are required as part of Virginia's plan for implementing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 1997. The information from these surveys is needed to assist the Department of Education in planning professional development activities related to such training. All building principals in your school division are requested to distribute the Paraprofessional Needs Assessment Survey to persons serving as paraprofessionals. The other survey, Responses Regarding Paraprofessional Needs Survey, is to be distributed to those individuals who are responsible for training and supervising paraprofessionals. Each survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. The principals may photocopy the surveys or request additional copies by contacting Sandra Aldrich at (804)225-2096 or e-mail saldrich@pen.k12.va.us. Funds have been allocated in Virginia's State Improvement Plan to support training activities. Bridgewater College is sponsoring an initial statewide session on July 12-14, 1999. Thank you for your assistance. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Sandra Aldrich, office of special education personnel development, (804)225-2096. PDA/sa Attachments: A hard copy of this memo and its attach- ment will be sent to the superintendent's office.
