TO: | Division Superintendents |
FROM: | JoLynne DeMary Acting Superintendent of Public Instruction |
SUBJECT: | Federal Program Monitoring Review of the School Nutrition Programs |
The Code of Federal Regulations 7, Section 210.18, requires the Department of Education to conduct an administrative review of the school breakfast and lunch programs in each school food authority (school division) once every five years. This review is a comprehensive on-site evaluation of school nutrition programs designed to assess compliance with required regulations, standards, and state and federal laws. For your information, the schedule for the next five years is attached (Attachment 1). A tentative review calendar for the school year 2000-2001 is also attached (Attachment 2). School divisions scheduled for a review next year are asked to review these dates and advise the School Nutrition Programs Office by July 14, 2000, of any conflicts due to holidays, scheduled breaks, or examination schedules. The School Nutrition Programs Office will conduct two orientation sessions for school divisions scheduled for a review. Personnel from the school division's school nutrition central office are required to attend one of these sessions. Orientations are scheduled for September 14 and 15 in the cities of Richmond and Radford. Additional information and registration details will be sent in mid-July. If you have questions regarding the schedule, please contact India Liggon at (804) 225-2074. JLD/idl Attachments
