SUBJECT: | Public Hearing on the Proposed Computer/Technology Standards of Learning by the End of Grade 12 |
The Department of Education invites you to attend a public hearing to receive public comments on the proposed Standards of Learning for Computer/Technology to be completed by the end of Grade 12. The meeting will be held on February 24, 2000, in the "The Founder's Room" located in the Stuart C. Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University. The center is located at 1200 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA. Parking is available at a public lot across the street from the Siegel Center at a cost of $4. On-street parking is also available. The proposed standards were approved for distribution to interested persons and organizations throughout the state to receive public comment prior to final adoption by the Board of Education. Enclosed is a copy of the document for your information. The session will begin at 2 p.m. as part of the public hearing process. The purpose of the hearing is for the Board of Education to receive comments or recommendations concerning the proposed Computer/Technology SOL. Registration for those who wish to speak will begin at 12 noon. Speakers are to limit their remarks to three minutes each. In the event a large number of persons request to speak, the hearing chairman may request that the time limit for each speaker be shortened to less than three minutes. A written copy of remarks may be submitted upon registration at the hearing. Written comments also may be submitted prior to February 24 directly to Lan Neugent, assistant superintendent for technology, Department of Education, P.O. Box 2120, Richmond, VA 23218-2120 until February 20, 2000. Comments may also be emailed to techsol@pen.k12.va.us.
