SUBJECT: | 4-SAFE-VA Workshops |
On May 10, 1999, Governor Gilmore announced the 4-SAFE-VA Program, an ongoing school safety initiative that has provided training for law enforcement officers, educators, and school personnel. Since the inception of the program, more than 3,500 law enforcement officers, school administrators, and school personnel have been trained to prevent and respond to violence and critical incidents in our schools. During the coming months, the Virginia State Police, in coordination with the Department of Education, will be providing training workshops specifically for educators and school personnel, entitled "School Safety 101: Basic School Safety Training for School Personnel." These training sessions are designed to give a broad overview of current school safety issues including violence prevention, recognizing aggressive behavior in students, and responding to critical incidents. The schedule for the workshops is as follows. Registration information is attached. · June 15, 2000 Abingdon Virginia Highlands Community College · June 16, 2000 Roanoke Hidden Valley Junior High School · June 23, 2000 Charlottesville Virginia Department of Forestry, Natural Resources Building · August 4, 2000 Virginia Beach Tallwood High School · August 23, 2000 Fauquier Lord Fairfax Community College, Warrenton Campus Three additional workshops will be scheduled for fall 2000. Dates and locations will be announced at a later date. We hope that you will assist us in disseminating information about these important workshops.
