| SUBJECT: | Final Legislative Action of the 2000 General Assembly |
This memorandum provides information about legislation passed by the 2000 session of the Virginia General Assembly that is of interest to superintendents and school division personnel. Information about General Assembly actions on public education bills proposed during the session is also included.
Legislative Information. Each bill passed by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor is grouped by category for easy reference as shown in the Bill Summary Index at (http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/PolicyPub/legis98/billsum.pdf) Attachment A. Also included in Attachment A is a summary of each bill, by categories. Actions required by local school boards are presented within the summaries underlined and in bold print.
Final Legislative Tracking Report. The Final Legislative Tracking Report at (http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/PolicyPub/legis98/Part.html) reflects all actions on education-related legislation and is included as Attachment B.
Within the next few weeks the Department of Education will distribute a publication containing the text of bills passed by the 2000 General Assembly. The categories of this "legislation book" will correspond to the categories provided in the attached
