Superintendent of Public Instruction |
SUBJECT: | Approval of Advanced Placement (AP) Human Geography as a Substitute for the SOL World Geography Test |
Recent action of the Board of Education resulted in the approval of AP Human Geography as a substitute test for the SOL World Geography test. As with other AP tests, a score of 2 is required for the student to be "Proficient" and a score of 3 is required for the student to be "Advanced Proficient."
The initial list of substitute tests
approved by the Board was conveyed on October 13, 2000, via Informational
Superintendents Memo No. 194. This memo contained an attachment listing
all approved substitute tests and the required scores for each proficiency
level. This table has been updated to include AP Human Geography and is
attached to this memo. In addition to conveying the approved substitute
tests, Superintendents Memo No. 194 conveyed information related to the
Standards of Accreditation references on substitute tests. All superintendents
memos are available for downloading on the Department’s website at http://www.pen.k12.va.us/.
Questions regarding substitute testing should be directed to the Division of Assessment and Reporting at (804) 225-2102. Questions regarding the use of the substitute tests for accreditation ratings should be directed to Charles Finley, assistant superintendent for accountability services at (804) 786-9421 or mailto:cfinley@pen.k12.va.us.
