SUBJECT:

Submission of the 2002 School Census Count

 

In accordance with the provisions of 22.1-281 through 22.1-286, Code of Virginia, March 1 through July 15, 2002, is designated as the period during which the 2002 school census will be conducted and completed. Your summary of census returns is due to the Department of Education on or before Friday, August 16, 2002 as noted in Administrative Supts. Memo No. 6 dated January 25, 2002.

 

The 2002 school census count of all persons ages 5-19 residing in the respective counties, cities, and towns can be reported on the School and Staff Administration Web-based form. The Web-based form is accessed on the Department of Educations website at www.pen.k12.va.us by selecting Reports" at the top of the homepage or Data and Publications at the bottom and then selecting "School and Staff Administration (School ID) Data Collection, 2002-2003". The complete address to access the Web form is http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Publications/ADMN/datacoll/coll.htm.

 

After the 2002 census count for your school division is entered on the Web form, a verification form can be printed. The Superintendent's Summary of Census Returns verification must be signed and faxed or mailed to the Department of Education by August 16, 2002. The Data Administration unit in the Office of Information Technology will then process the statistic for reasonability.

 

Division superintendents and the school and staff administration contact person will be notified of login information, instructions, and procedures for updates to the School and Staff Administration data collection for the 2002-2003 school year. Refer to SUPTS. MEMO NO. 40.
