Regulations
Governing the Secondary School Transcript |
On September 26, 2001, the Virginia Board of
Education adopted amended regulations governing the Secondary School Transcript. These regulations primarily address
the required content for the secondary school transcript, including the credit
requirements for the Standard and Advanced Studies Diplomas. Significant
changes in the states graduation requirements have been adopted by the board
since 1988, as found in Regulations
Establishing Standards for Accrediting Public Schools in Virginia (SOA), 8
VAC 20-131-10 et seq. These changes include increased minimum credit
requirements for the Standard and Advanced Studies Diplomas, as well as a new
form of required credit, the verified credit. Also, the Modified Standard
Diploma has been added as a diploma option. The recently adopted regulations
reflect those changes to ensure that the transcript requirements are consistent
with the requirements in the SOA. These regulations are effective immediately.
Attachment A contains a copy of the recently adopted
regulations for your use in planning and developing transcripts at the local
level. Localities have two options for the secondary school transcript format.
They may use the Department of Educations model or develop their own. No
standard format is required as long as the required information is listed on
the transcript. Attachments B and C contain the Department of Educations model
shown as PDF and Word files.
