Family Literacy Institute, September 18-20, 2002 |
You are
invited to participate in the Virginia Family Literacy Institute, September
18-20, 2002, at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center. The theme, United in
Learning, reflects the combined sponsorship by the Offices of Elementary
Instructional Services and Adult Education and Literacy of the Virginia
Department of Education. The target audience is early childhood and elementary
educators, adult educators, program coordinators, family literacy providers,
principals, tutors, curriculum specialists, community and business partners,
and parents.
The Virginia
Family Literacy Institute will feature general and concurrent sessions that
will provide participants with new ideas on early childhood education, adult
literacy instruction, parent and child together time, parent education,
collaborative partnerships, special needs populations, exemplary program
models, and program management. A preliminary conference program synopsis is
provided in Attachment A.
A
conference registration form is provided with this memo (see Attachment
B). Please duplicate the form as needed
and share this information with persons who would be interested in attending
the institute. The deadline for
registration is August 30, 2002. The
registration form should be sent to the following address:
The
Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center will house all the institute programs. Hotel accommodations are available on a
first-come, first-serve basis beginning June 1, by contacting the hotel as
listed in the announcement. Lodging
rates are $59 (plus tax) for a single room and $79 (plus tax) for a
double/triple/quad room (or the prevailing state rate in September 2002). Individuals are responsible for their
lodging bill, including taxes and incidentals, meals that are not included in
registration, and travel expenses.
Individuals
or teams from the target audience are invited to showcase best practices in
family literacy, early childhood education, and adult education. The presentation application is provided in
Attachment C and should be returned by July 12 to:
