Internet Webmaster Academic Partnership Established |
Through a commonwealth-wide membership with Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Partner Program, The Virginia Department of Education, Office of Career and Technical Education Services, and the Virginia Community College System, Workforce Development Services Unit, are providing all high schools and community colleges with the benefits of a CIW membership. CIW is a widely recognized vendor-neutral curriculum and certification which focuses on the job skills related to the Internet, i.e., website designer, administrator, manager, developer, and more.
This new partnership between the Office of Career
and Technical Education and CIW provides several advantages. Schools have the option to purchase official
CIW courseware in a simple and cost-effective manner or to become an Authorized
Academic partner and a testing site to offer CIW exams directly to
students. The variety of learning and
testing tools available through this agreement will assist with industry skill
certification of students who desire to enter information technology or office
workforce positions with Internet-specific and/or Microsoft Office User
Specialist (MOUS) skills. Since the Board
of Education has recognized the value of industry certifications, this
partnership reinforces efforts to help schools integrate marketplace skills and
to be certified in appropriate Career and Technical Education programs.
Attached is an information packet that includes a description
on How to Get Started, as well as an application and a form to complete
regarding your interest in participating in this partnership. For additional information about CIW,
contact Jeff Berman, account manager, (mailto:jeff.berman@computerprep.com)
at (866) 535-8607, and for information regarding this partnership contact James
A. Gray, Jr., associate director for career and technical education services, (mailto:jimgray@pen.k12.va.us) at (804)
