Discipline, Crime, and Violence Report |
The
purpose of this memo is to provide reminder information for submitting data on
discipline, crime, and violence in public schools for the 2003-2004 year. Data should be submitted for the 365-day
period starting with the first day of the 2003-2004 school year. Data submitted will meet the reporting
requirements for the following:
All
data should be submitted through the Web-based submission process to the
Department of Education (DOE). The
Web-based submission process begins on August 2, 2004, and closes on September
17, 2004. The designated local contact
person for this report should coordinate the collection and submission of the
data for the division.
As
a reminder, please see SUPTS MEMO NO. 58, October 24, 2003, for modifications
that occurred for collecting data in the school year 2003-2004. The Web submission
process has not changed; however, more edit checks have been added to insure
the accuracy of the data. An edit check
document is posted on the website for your convenience.

When submission of the information has been completed, a
verification report will be generated.
The report for this year will include a new feature: a Safety Information Verification
page. The purpose of this page is to
provide specific categorical information regarding the determination of
Persistently Dangerous Schools in Virginia, as required under the No Child
Left Behind legislation. If this
page contains an alert message, an additional signature by the division
superintendent will be required.
Written
protocols are included as an attachment for the submission process and for any
resubmissions.
Additional
information related to this data collection process can be downloaded from the
Department of Educations website at www.pen.k12.va.us. Users can select Reports at the top of the
home page, or Reports at the bottom, and then select Discipline, Crime, and
Violence Data Collection from the Collections list. The complete address to access instructions
