2003-2004 Discipline, Crime, and Violence Report

The purpose of this memo is to provide reminder information for submitting data on discipline, crime, and violence in public schools for the 2003-2004 year. Data should be submitted for the 365-day period starting with the first day of the 2003-2004 school year. Data submitted will meet the reporting requirements for the following:

All data should be submitted through the Web-based submission process to the Department of Education (DOE). The Web-based submission process begins on August 2, 2004, and closes on September 17, 2004. The designated local contact person for this report should coordinate the collection and submission of the data for the division.

As a reminder, please see SUPTS MEMO NO. 58, October 24, 2003, for modifications that occurred for collecting data in the school year 2003-2004. The Web submission process has not changed; however, more edit checks have been added to insure the accuracy of the data. An edit check document is posted on the website for your convenience.

When submission of the information has been completed, a verification report will be generated. The report for this year will include a new feature: a Safety Information Verification page. The purpose of this page is to provide specific categorical information regarding the determination of Persistently Dangerous Schools in Virginia, as required under the No Child Left Behind legislation. If this page contains an alert message, an additional signature by the division superintendent will be required.

Written protocols are included as an attachment for the submission process and for any resubmissions.

Additional information related to this data collection process can be downloaded from the Department of Educations website at Users can select Reports at the top of the home page, or Reports at the bottom, and then select Discipline, Crime, and Violence Data Collection from the Collections list.
