Virginia Educational Facility Planners Conference February 23-24, 2004

Attached is a brochure describing the Virginia Educational Facility Planners (VEFP) conference that the Department of Education is co-sponsoring with Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI & SU) Division of Continuing Education. The Conference will be held at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, Roanoke, Virginia, on February 23-24, 2004. This will be a two-day interactive workshop on facilities and planning.

There also will be an exhibit of recent school projects completed in Virginia and a distinguished jury to recognize the most successful projects. Plaques will be presented to the architects and winning schools in four categories.

The registration fee includes a banquet on Monday evening, continental breakfast on Tuesday morning, and lunch on Tuesday. If you wish to stay at the hotel on Monday night, the conference rate is $88.50 single or $98 double, plus tax.

This years conference will focus on the future trend in the design of school facilities with a keynote address by Ian Jukes titled Living On The Future Edge. This will be followed by a panel discussion led by Ian Jukes. Panel members include Dr. Patricia Wright of the Department of Education, Mr. Arthur J. Brandiff, Jr., the Virginia Principal of the Year, Ms. Laurie J. Sullivan, the Virginia Teacher of the Year, and Dr. Linda LeMasters, the Virginia Educational Facility Planner of the year. This panel will focus on New Visions For Teaching and Learning, and Their Effects on the Planning of Educational Facilities. I hope that you or someone from your staff will attend this conference and contribute your experiences to the forum and also participate in the election of new officers for the coming year.

Please register directly with VPI & SU for the conference and/or room using the form in the attached brochure. For questions on the program please call Vijay Ramnarain, Office of Support Services, at (804) 225-2035.
