I am pleased to inform you that the updated
Elementary School Patterns, Functions, and Algebra Professional Development
Program is available in Word and .pdf formats on the Department of Educations
website at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/sol.html
This resource is a professional development program
designed to assist teachers in implementing the 2001 Mathematics Standards of
Learning. It provides a sample of meaningful and engaging activities correlated
to the Patterns, Functions, and Algebra strand of the kindergarten through
grade 5 Mathematics Standards of Learning.
Curriculum specialists and teachers are encouraged to use this program to enhance teachers content knowledge and use of instructional strategies for teaching kindergarten through grade 5 the Patterns, Functions, and Algebra strand of the Mathematics Standards of Learning. The program is organized into five sessions that can be offered by school divisions for teacher licensure renewal points or for a one-credit graduate course when university credit can be arranged.
