Algebra I Online Tutorial Regional Training Sessions |
The
Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the availability of the
Algebra I Online Tutorial. The tutorial
was developed as part of Governor Mark Warners Project Graduation initiative
and will be available to high school students who have passed Algebra I but not
the corresponding end-of-course assessment.
Students who entered the ninth grade for the first time in 2003 or later
must have a verified credit in mathematics to graduate with a standard diploma.
The
tutorial is designed to identify student academic needs with an online pretest
and tailor Web-based lessons to meet those needs. After students have completed all recommended lessons, they will
be given a final online assessment. Students
may review tutorial lessons and retake the final online assessment as many
times as they wish. The tutorial will
be available at no charge to public school students in Virginia.
Although
students may engage in lessons from home or school, each school must provide a
contact person to serve as a facilitator and mentor to enrolled students. The school facilitator will have access to
accounts and may monitor student progress.
The facilitator must complete a training program. Several regional opportunities are available
for training facilitators and/or trainers for each school division. School divisions with K-12 enrollments of
6,000 or fewer may send one person to a regional training. School divisions with K-12 enrollments
greater than 6,000 may send two people to a regional training session. Each regional training site has a limited
number of seats that will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The enrollment form is attached.
