Revision of
Computer/Technology Standards of Learning |
The Board of
Education adopted a schedule for review and revisions to the Standards of
Learning at its September 28, 2000 meeting.
The computer technology standards are scheduled for revision in 2005,
(The Code of Virginia 22.1-253.13:1-2 states that By October
1, 2000, the Board of Education shall establish a regular schedule, in a manner
it deems appropriate, for the review, and revision as may be necessary, of the
Standards of Learning in all subject areas.
Such review of each subject area shall occur at least once every seven
years. Nothing in this section shall be
construed to prohibit the Board from conducting such review and revision on a
more frequent basis.)
The Board of
Education at the September 2004 meeting approved a schedule for reviewing the
Computer/Technology Standards of Learning.
A review team will be established consisting of three Department of
Education educational technology specialists and representatives from each of
the eight superintendents regional study groups. The members will represent all levels of key instruction and
educational technology stakeholders.
The
Department of Education staff members will identify and
obtain
current national standards, reports, and other resources to assist with the
review. The members of this review team
and the department staff will examine national computer/technology curriculum
documents; recent state, national, and international assessment results; and
systematic feedback from school personnel to determine what revisions, if any,
are needed in Virginias computer technology standards.
School
personnel and other interested individuals will be provided an opportunity to
review and to respond to the existing K-12 computer technology standards that
were adopted in 1995 and 2000 and to make recommendations for the revised
standards. The computer/technology standards may be viewed
