Effective Date for the Regulations Governing General Educational Development (GED) Certificates |
On March 15,
2005, the Revised Regulations Governing General Educational Development (GED)
Certificates, 8 VAC 20-360, became effective as approved by the Board of
Education on November 17, 2004.
The new
regulations clarify the criteria necessary for an individual to be issued a GED
Certificate and are aligned with the Code of Virginia, Sections 22.1-254 and
22.1-254.2. The criteria address age
and score requirements, where the tests must be taken, and transfer of test
scores for GED tests taken at an official GED testing center outside
Virginia.
Deleted from
the new regulations is the requirement that individuals must be Virginia
residents in order to make application to take the GED tests. Applicants will no longer be required to
register in the school division in which they live. Testing centers determine eligibility for testing based on
regulatory requirements and policies of the GED Testing Service.
If you have
any questions about the revised Regulations Governing General Educational
Development Certificates, please contact Robert MacGillivray (Robert.Macgillivray@doe.virginia.gov),
GED administrator at (804) 371-2333.
