2005 Spring Statewide Litter Campaign |
The Department of Education is partnering with
several state agencies in an effort to fight litter on many fronts this
spring. The 2005 Spring Statewide
Litter Campaign involves Virginias agencies for conservation and recreation,
education, environmental quality, forestry, game and inland fisheries, state
police, and transportation. These
agencies carry out varied activities including litter education, enforcement,
cleanup, recycling, and prevention.
During the campaign, teachers are encouraged to use
litter education materials provided by Virginia Naturally at www.vanaturally.com and the Virginia
Department of Environmental Quality at www.deq.state.va.us/education
to create hands-on activities that will heighten students awareness of the
benefits of preventing litter and the many environmental and safety problems
created by litter.
Governor Mark Warner will recognize schools and
classrooms for their hands-on activities if teachers register the activities as
events on the Stewardship Virginia site at http://www.dcr.state.va.us/stewardship/.
More information about the 2005 Spring Statewide
Litter Campaign is available at http://www.virginiadot.org/infoservice/litter/index.html.
