SUBJECT: |
Review of Private Educational Management Companies |
As part of
its ongoing commitment to assist schools and school divisions that have failed
to make adequate progress toward student achievement goals, the Board of
Education approved a set of criteria against which to evaluate private
educational management companies at its April 20, 2005, meeting.
As a result
of this action, school divisions and/or private educational management
companies may submit such programs to the Virginia Department of Education for
review. The review will be based on the criteria established by the Board of
Education. The end result of the review
will be a summary that outlines how the private educational management company
meets the criteria established by the board.
The review will provide additional information to school divisions that
are considering hiring such a company to administer one or more of its schools.
Private
educational management companies are not required to seek a review by the
Department of Education. The review is offered as a service to those school
divisions that would like additional assistance in evaluating the effectiveness
of the private educational management companies.
The process
for submitting a review request is attached to this memorandum. Reviews may be
submitted to the department on an on-going basis.

questions or would like additional information, please contact Diane Jay,
