Day: October 24, 2005 |
I
am pleased to bring to your attention the recognition of October 24, 2005, as
United Nations Day in Virginia. Each
year the United Nations selects a theme that focuses on a millennium goal. The United Nations theme for 2005 is Child Health and Survival. I
encourage all educators to assume the responsibility for ensuring that
Virginias young people recognize the importance of this crucial goal.
The
increased interdependency of nations and people requires that our K-12 instructional
program reinforce and augment many of the founding principles of the United
Nations. Please join with me to
recognize the principal mandates of the United Nations and to commemorate sixty
years since the founding of this organization.
For
more information, please contact the Virginia Commissioner of United Nations
Day: Ingrid H. Morroy, Arlington County
Commission of Revenue, through her assistant, Muriel Tewksbury (mtewksbury@arlingtonva.us) or (703)
