Revisions
to GS-21 Records Retention Schedule for Public School Records |
As you know,
the Library of Virginia establishes retention schedules for all public records,
including those maintained by public schools.
The schedules establish the requirements for managing these records,
including retention and destruction timelines and methods.
The Library
has asked that we notify you that changes have been made to GS-21, the schedule
that governs public school records, effective September 24, 2007. The revised schedule may be found on the
Librarys website at www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwedo/records/sched_local/index.htm.
Additionally,
the Library has established the Educational Special Interest Group (EdSIG), a listserv where members can ask and respond to
questions regarding the management of education records and a Public School
Records Consortium that meets regularly to discuss issues related to public
school records.
If you have
questions about GS-21 or would like to sign up for the listserv, you may
contact Amy Judd, Records Analyst at the Library of Virginia, at (804) 692-3601
or amy.judd@lva.virginia.gov.
You may also contact Nancy Tyler, chairperson of the Public School Records
Consortium, at (703) 329-7746 for help with questions.
