of Learning |
The
Virginia Board of Education adopted the proposed revised History and Social Science Standards of Learning with one amendment
and two technical edits on January 10, 2008.
The attached document reflects the changes approved by the Board. The key that has been used is single
underlines and single strikethroughs for changes that went to the Board for
first review in October 2007. Double
underlines and double strikethroughs were used for additional changes based on
public comments from October 26 through November 27, 2007, and were included in
the document that went to the Board for final review on January 10, 2008. The amendment and two technical edits
approved by the Board at the January 10 meeting have been indicated in italics
followed by an asterisk, and may be found in the course entitled Virginia and United States Government,
in Standards of Learning GOVT.8 and
GOVT.9.
The History and Social
Science Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework is currently being reviewed
and revised to reflect the new standards. The completion of a draft framework is
anticipated later this spring. Following
the Board of Education's review, the draft curriculum framework will be
available for public comment. Adoption by
the Board and distribution of the framework is anticipated by summer or early
fall 2008.
