SUBJECT:	Technical Assistance Academy for New Coordinators of Title I, Part A; Title II, Part A; Title II, Part D; Title III, Part A; and Title IV, Part A

 

The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce a professional development academy on July 15-16, 2008, for new coordinators in the following programs:

• Title I, Part A, Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged
• Title II, Part A, Preparing, Training, and Recruiting High-Quality Teachers and Principals
• Title II, Part D, Enhancing Education through Technology  
• Title III, Part A, Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient and Immigrant Students
• Title IV, Part A, Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities

The academy will assist new coordinators in understanding the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, as related to the respective programs. A draft agenda is attached.

 

The academy will be held at the Sheraton Park South Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. Registration will be held from 7:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. on July 15. On July 15, the sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4:15 p.m. On July 16, the sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. The academy is designed for coordinators with up to two years of experience as an administrator for one or more of the federal programs referenced above. Space is limited to four participants per school division.

Breaks and lunch will be provided. Lodging, if required, will be master billed. Mileage and meals not covered on the master bill may be charged to the respective local federal program, in accordance with state travel guidelines.
