Technical Assistance for the Reporting of Limited English Proficient (LEP)
Student Data as Required Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) |
The No
Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB)
requires school divisions that receive Title III funds to meet annual
measurable achievement objectives (AMAO) that include the following:
Annual
increases in the number or percentage of LEP students making progress in learning
English;
Annual
increases in the number or percentage of LEP students attaining full English
proficiency by the end of the school year; and
Percentage
of LEP students making adequate yearly progress as described in Section 1111
(b)(2)(B).
In preparation
for meeting reporting requirements stipulated in Sections 3121(a)(2)(3) and
3122(b)of NCLB, the Virginia Department of Education will offer Web-based
training that will provide assistance to school divisions regarding the
identification of Limited English Proficient (LEP) students, as well as how to
access and report the required data.
The training
session will be offered on May 29, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. For directions
on how to participate in this Web-based training session, refer to Attachment A.
All divisions
are encouraged to participate since the Title III data collection process has
been revised for 2008-2009. If you have questions regarding registration,
