pleased to announce the availability of matching state funds in the amount of
$50,000 per site for four grants to establish a Project Lead The Way (PLTW)
program. Project Lead The Way offers a
four-year sequence of courses which, when combined with college preparatory
mathematics and science courses in high school, introduces students to the scope,
rigor, and discipline of engineering and engineering technology prior to
entering college. The primary courses
are Introduction to Engineering Design, Digital Electronics, Principles of
Engineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, and Engineering Design and
Development. Additional information
about Project Lead The Way can be accessed at http://www.pltw.org.
The
grant funds must be used to: a)
establish a new state-of-the-art Project Lead The Way laboratory, or b)
modernize an existing laboratory to fully implement Project Lead The Way. Grant recipients will be notified by October
31, 2008. Grant funds will be for the
school year 2009-2010.
Each
application received will be given priority consideration based on the strength
of the application and geographical/regional representation across the
state. The following criteria must be
met when submitting an application:
A
100 percent local match of funds is required (may use local or Perkins funds).
Only
fully completed applications will be considered. Faxed copies of applications will not be
reviewed.
School
divisions receiving the grants must commit to sending a lead teacher to the
PLTW summer in-service workshop.
The
teacher must hold an endorsement in Technology Education.
The
school and division must make a commitment to implement all five courses over a
four-year period.
The
school and division must make a commitment to complete the PLTW Program
