SUBJECT: |
Accurate Identification of Eligible Migrant
Students |
In compliance with the reporting
requirements of Section 1304 (c)(7) of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001,
the Virginia Department of Education is required to collect and report
migrant student data for all eligible migrant students in Virginia. For a
student to be classified as a migrant student, a Certificate of Eligibility
(COE) must be completed to verify eligibility.
Accurate identification of migrant
students in the student information system by the local school division is critical. To facilitate consistent state
reporting, it is suggested that principals work with their student information
system and student record collection designees to ensure that once a migrant
student has been identified, the student is reported as a migrant student in
the student information system. Accurate identification of migrant students in
the student information system is critical so that they can receive the
appropriate services.
If you have questions about migrant
student eligibility, or the identification and recruitment of migrant students,
please contact Megan Moore, education specialist, at megan.moore@doe.virginia.gov or
by phone at (804)786-9935.
