SUBJECT: Rural and Low-Income School Program Symposium

The Department of Education is pleased to announce the Fourth Annual Rural and Low-Income School Program Symposium in collaboration with Title III, Part A, Limited English Proficient (LEP) Program(s) and Title I, Part C, Education of Migratory Children. This one-day symposium will address the following topics: 1) Using Classroom Assessment to Improve Learning for All Students in Rural Schools; 2)Differentiated Intervention Strategies that Support Struggling Students in Rural Classrooms; and 3) Strategies to Ensure High Quality Professional Development in Rural Communities with Reduced Funding.

The symposium will be held at The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center in Roanoke, Virginia. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, and will conclude at 4 p.m. Registration will be from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. School divisions that are recipients of Title VI, Part B, Subpart 2, and Title III, Part A, and Title I, Part C, funds are invited to send coordinators and other representatives to this symposium.

The Office of Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech will manage the online registration. The link is: The online registration must be completed by Wednesday, March 11. Breaks and lunch will be provided; lodging and parking will be master billed. Travel should be charged to the respective local program.
