The Virginia Board of Education approved the “Advancing Virginia's Leadership Agenda” Guidance Document: Standards and Indicators for School Leaders and Documentation for the Principal of Distinction (Level II) Administration and Supervision Endorsement. This project was made possible through a grant from The Wallace Foundation and the dedicated work of principals, representatives from the principal associations, college and university faculty and staffs, superintendents, and board members. You may access the Board of Education item and the guidance document on the following Web page:

The purpose of the meeting is to inform school division and college and university officials about this leadership initiative, provide guidance in recommending individuals for the Principal of Distinction Administration and Supervision endorsement, share information on mentoring and coaching programs, and discuss how the standards and indicators can be used to help guide professional development and strengthen leadership preparation programs. The Wallace Foundation is providing funding for the meeting, and expenses for travel will be reimbursed in accordance with state travel requirements.

If you have any questions about the meeting, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Patty S. Pitts, assistant superintendent for teacher education and licensure, or Dr. James W. Lanham, director of licensure and school leadership, at (804) 371-2522.
