SUBJECT: Career and Technical Education Summer Professional Development Institute, August 3-7, 2009

The Career and Technical Education Professional Development institute will be held August 3–7, 2009, in Richmond. Career and Technical Education (CTE) program area professional associations will host meetings at a variety of hotels in the Richmond vicinity during the week, and all institute participants will join together for one day, August 4, at the Richmond Convention Center. School divisions are invited to send representatives to this professional development institute. The theme, “Developing a Bright Future,” will focus on providing the skills needed to develop and/or maintain programs that raise expectations and increase student achievement. The target audience includes core and elective subject area educators, school counselors, administrators, and local advisory council members. The institute is funded in part by federal funds to assist in meeting the professional development requirements of the Carl D. Perkins Act and Virginia’s approved state plan.


There is a fee of $125 for participants who register before June 10, 2009. After June 10, the fee is $150. Registration details and forms can be accessed at

Hotel Reservations (by July 6, 2009)

Attendees are responsible for making their own lodging reservations by calling the appropriate institute hotel. Reservations must be made by July 6, 2009, in order to receive the special group rate. The group rate applies for any night between Monday, August 3, through Friday, August 7, 2009. Participants must call the hotel assigned, as referenced in the online registration information to make lodging reservations. Individuals are responsible for their lodging bill, including taxes and incidentals, and meals that are not included in registration, and travel expenses. Reservation details can be accessed at
