SUBJECT: Rural and Low-Income School Program Symposium

The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the Fifth Annual Rural and Low-Income School Program Symposium in collaboration with Title III, Part A, Limited English Proficient (LEP) Program and Title I, Part C, Education of Migratory Children Program. The two-day symposium on Differentiated Instruction will be presented by Dr. Jan Rozzelle and Dr. Valerie Gregory from The College of William and Mary. Participants will discuss the connections between instruction and assessment, increase their knowledge of assessment strategies for the differentiated classroom, and return to their school divisions with techniques for implementation.

The symposium will be held at The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center in Roanoke, Virginia. Registration will open at 7:30 a.m., and the symposium will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23. The symposium will end at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24. School divisions that are recipients of Title VI, Part B, Subpart 2, Title III, Part A, and Title I, Part C, funds are invited to send coordinators and other representatives to this symposium.

The Office of Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech will manage the online registration. The link is: The online registration must be completed by Wednesday, March 17. Continental breakfasts, breaks, lunches, dinner (Tuesday night), and lodging will be provided. Other allowable expenses may be charged to the respective local program.
