SUBJECT:  World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA®) Academic Language Development Training for English Learners

As part of the Virginia Department of Education’s ongoing effort to ensure compliance with the English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards and assessment requirements under Section 1111(b)(7) and Section 3113(b)(2) of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), a training entitled “Academic Language Development for English Learners (ELs)” will be offered.  The WIDA® Academic Language Development trainings will focus on providing instructional strategies to increase academic language development among ELs.  The first day of the training will be for elementary level educators of ELs.  The second day of the training will be for secondary level educators of ELs. Due to space limitations, registration is limited to two teachers (one elementary teacher for day one and one secondary teacher for day two per division.

The training will be provided from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in four locations throughout the state as follows:

Breakfast, lunch, and materials will be provided.  Travel costs are the responsibility of attendees; however, these expenses are authorized activities under and may be charged to local Title I, Part A; Title II, Part A; and Title III, Part A, budgets.
