I am pleased to announce that the student support services conference, Strengthening Connections: Overcoming Barriers to Learning, will be held at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, Roanoke, Virginia, December 3-4, 2012. This conference, sponsored by the Office of Student Services, Division of Special Education and Student Services, promotes coordinating student support services and building partnerships among school personnel, parents, and communities in order to promote student achievement. The content is appropriate for student services administrators and staff, other school professionals, and community prevention coalition members. Family and student service providers in the community are also welcome.
Registration is $50 per person and includes training materials and selected meals. School divisions are responsible for registration and all travel costs, including, but not limited to, mileage, lodging, and meals not included as part of the conference package. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hotel Roanoke under the name “Strengthening Connections” and will be available until November 2, 2012.
A sample of the sessions to be offered includes:
Targeted technical assistance workshops will be provided on Tuesday, December 4 for homeless liaisons, Homebound Instructional Program supervisors, Family Life Education coordinators, foster care liaisons, and personnel responsible for billing Medicaid for approved school services. There is no fee for those persons who only attend the technical assistance workshops; however, it is necessary for all participants to register using the online portal noted below.
