The Department of Education is pleased to announce the Granville P. Meade Scholarship which provides financial assistance to students who have achieved academically, but who are financially unable to attend college. The Granville P. Meade fund awards scholarships to eligible Virginia high school seniors to attend one of Virginia's public or private colleges or universities. Additional information about the scholarship is in Attachment A. Attachment B contains the scholarship application.
Principals of all public and nonpublic senior high schools are requested to assist in making students aware of the scholarship opportunity. It is anticipated that the scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $2,000 per year for four years, provided the student continues to meet the scholarship requirements.
The application and selection timeline is as follows:
March 15, 2013 |
Public school students and private school students submit scholarship application to their high school principal. |
March 29, 2013 |
Public school applications due in their division superintendents’ office; private school applications due in their associations’ office. |
April 12, 2013 |
The five division-selected public school applications are due to the chairperson of their regional study group screening committee. (Attachment C) |
April 26, 2013 |
The final five selected applications from chairpersons of the regional study groups; and the final five selected applications from private and home school associations are to be submitted to: |
May 31, 2013 |
Division superintendents, Virginia Council for Private Education, the Home Educators Association of Virginia, and the Virginia Home Education Association will be notified of scholarship recipients. |
