SUBJECT:  Revised Regulations Governing the Practice of Nursing

The Virginia Board of Nursing held a Program Director’s Consultation Session on Friday, November 8, 2013, to review the revised Regulations Governing the Practice of Nursing, 18 VAC 90-20-10  Statutory Authority:  §§54.1-2400 and  Chapter 30 of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia, revised November 21, 2013.  Additionally, the following list of selected guidance documents have been revised and are available for review.

Guidance Documents:

  1. Guidance Document 90-21:  Clinical Learning Experience in Nursing Education Programs
  2. Guidance Document 90-22:  Requests for Accommodations for NCLEX and NNAAP Testing and Medication Aide Examination for Registration
  3. Guidance Document 90-23:  Decision-making Model for Determining RN/LPN Scope of Practice
  4. Guidance Document 90-24:  The Use of Simulation in Nursing Education
  5. Guidance Document 90-28:  Clinical Hours for LPN to Pre-licensure RN Transition/ Bridge Programs
  6. Guidance Document 90-55:  Joint Statement of the Department of Health and the Department of Health Professions on Impact of Criminal Convictions on Nursing Licensure or Certification and Employment in Virginia

Under a separate cover this information will be provided to career and technical education administrators and nursing program directors to ensure that all programs are in compliance with the revised regulations.
