The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), in collaboration with the Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI), is sponsoring two seminars at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center, 2800 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451. Both seminars will be conducted by James A. Kaufman, Ph.D., LIS President/CEO. For more detailed information refer to Attachments A and B. The seminars are scheduled as follows:
July 30, 2014
Leadership in Safety: The Administrator’s Role
Time: 9 A.M. – Noon
Target Audience: School administrators and Career and Technical Education (CTE) administrators
Description: Participants will learn about the most important issues for safety program development and the leadership principles for effective safety programs.July 31, 2014 – August 1, 2014
Laboratory Safety Short Course(Train-the-Trainer)
Time: 8 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. daily
Target Audience: Health and medical science education teachers and supervisors
Description: Participants will receive a comprehensive exposure to safety, health and environmental requirements in the healthcare setting that will include lab safety, workplace hazards, prudent practices, and methods for risk assessment.
NOTE: Upon completion of the course each participant will receive the Train-the-Trainer Certificate and LSI Safety Manual.
The VDOE will provide registration and materials for participants of both LSI seminars. Participants are responsible for all meals, travel-related expenses, and lodging, if needed. School division’s Perkins funds are allowable for this expenditure. To receive the special state lodging rates, $115 + taxes for single/double rooms or $125 + taxes for triple/quad rooms, participants should indicate they are registered for the “Virginia Department of Education LSI Seminars.”
Pre-registration is required to participate in the LSI Seminars. The online registration link is available at: http://www.logicdepot.com/surveys/run/start.cfm?skey=J07N7-2CJM0. Registration will be open until July 15, 2014, or until the 100 slots (per seminar) have been assigned.
