SUBJECT: | Training Options for Individuals Seeking Initial Licensure or Renewal of a License with an Endorsement as a School Counselor |
This memorandum is a follow up to Superintendent’s Memorandum Number 173-17, dated June 9, 2017. This communication provides school divisions with the training options for individuals seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license with an endorsement as a school counselor. Senate Bill 1117 of the 2017 General Assembly amended the statute to require that every person seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license with an endorsement as a school counselor must complete training in the recognition of mental health disorder and behavioral distress, including depression, trauma, violence, youth suicide, and substance abuse. The attachment provides the training options for individuals to meet this requirement. Please note that for Option 1: Face-to-Face Training, specifically request the “Youth” Mental Health First Aid Training.
