The 2018 General Assembly passed House Bill 1125 and Senate Bill 349 that eliminated the following requirements from the Code of Virginia and the Licensure Regulations for School Personnel:

…D. In addition, such regulations shall include requirements that:
1. Every person seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license demonstrate proficiency in the use of educational technology for instruction;
…3. Every person seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license shall receive professional development in instructional methods tailored to promote student academic progress and effective preparation for the Standards of Learning end-of-course and end-of-grade assessments;…
Effective July 1, 2018, individuals seeking initial licensure or licensure renewal will no longer be required to meet these requirements. Documentation of the educational technology requirements will not need to be submitted to the Division of Teacher Education and Licensure when an individual applies for an initial license or license renewal.
