Advisory Committees

Advisory committees are composed of members who have volunteered their time, talents, and knowledge to help strengthen educational programs. Members are appointed by the Board of Education to serve three-year terms of service. Each advisory committee develops its own program of work based on the needs of the program served. The committees meet three to four times a year and will make an annual report to the Board of Education on its recommendations for consideration and action.

Call for Nominations

The Virginia Board of Education is seeking nominees for vacancies on the Advisory Board on Teacher Education and Licensure (ABTEL), Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee, Early Childhood Advisory Committee (ECAC), and the State Special Education Advisory Committee (SSEAC).

Please note that, by state or federal law or regulation, some of the vacancies on advisory committees require specific categories of expertise, qualifications, or geographic representation (map of the VDOE Superintendent’s Regions). 

Members of advisory committees do not receive compensation for their service but may be reimbursed for travel expenses in accordance with state travel guidelines set forth by the Department of Accounts.

State Special Education Advisory Committee

  • A parent from Region 2 (term expires on June 30, 2029) 
  • A parent from Region 5 (term expires on June 30, 2029)
  • A parent from Region 6 (term expires on June 30, 2029)
